About The Foundation for Data Permanence


The Foundation for Data Permanence is a not-for-profit entity organized under the laws of Switzerland. It was established in 2009 and is located in Thun, Switzerland.

The Foundation is funded exclusively by contributions from its partner data storage services. Each partner service contributes the amount necessary to protect the data it stores for the contractual period it promises to its customers. All investments will be used solely for the purpose of preserving digital data by paying out ongoing mandatory data storage expenses. The Foundation's charter prohibits it from using these funds for any other purpose and its not-for-profit status prevents it from ever being merged, purchased or otherwise acquired by a commercial entity. All funds are managed on behalf of the Foundation for Data Permanence by Credit Suisse, a world-leading financial services company. Investment principals applied are comparable to those used in pension plans or life insurance policies. Credit Suisse has a decade long track record in successfully managing funds for a variety of pension plans. The primary investment principle is asset preservation with an objective to fulfillment of the Foundation's objectives.
